INTRODUCTION

This class examines aspects of the theatre including an in-depth look at the history of theatre.  It gives the student the opportunity to develop his/her artistic ability through the attainment of intermediate acting techniques.

GOALS

  • Learn different acting styles
  • Learn dialects
  • Develop an understanding of theatre history

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  1. See two plays/musicals and write a review of the performance per semester - use cover sheet
  2. Keep an acting journal
  3. Tech the Fall show of TA 3/4/5 in October. You may use this as one of your reviews.
  4. Notebook or section of notebook for drama. Checked Monthly. (You may combine your notebook and acting journal)
  5. 15 hours of tech work. (Tues/Weds 3-5pm)
  6. Perform in class show in January

RULES

  • NO gum, food, make-up, drinks or Homework during class is allowed.  This will count against your grade. (10 points each)
  • I adhere to a strict tardy policy.
  • NO CELL PHONES INCLUDING NO VIDEORECORDING OR PICTURE TAKING.

ACTING JOURNAL

You will keep a daily acting journal.  You need to have a composition book to write your evaluations and information you learn in class. These journals are for the instructor’s eyes only & will not be read by others.  Periodically, I will collect the journals for grading.  Make sure that they are written in a composition book.  ALWAYS HAVE YOUR JOURNAL WITH YOU!!!!

GRADING

Every assignment is weighted. The scale is outlined in this packet.  This means that EVERY GRADE COUNTS.  You must participate in all exercises and assignments.  PERFORMANCE IS MANDATORY!!!

GRADING SCALE

  • Presentations / Performances: 30%
  • Participation / Journal: 30%
  • Homework / Play Reviews: 20%
  • Midterm / Final: 20%

MATERIALS SUGGESTED

  • A folder for handouts and scripts.
  • Pens, highlighter and pencil.
  • Acting Journal.
  • Notebook
